Hudson Falls Energy Star Installation

Written by Ryan Wild on Friday, 27 April 2012. Posted in Installations

You maybe surprised to know just how efficient and possibly more importantly, CHEAP, some houses can be to live in.  A 1,4002 foot home in Hudson Falls, NY has been built to energy star standards and the stats don't lie.  Last year it cost $210 to heat the home.  There are many facets to the equation that make this possible and a geothermal system installation is a very important one.

There are many perks to having a geothermal heating a cooling system installed.  They are quiet, both heating and cooling are combined into one unit, there is no risk of CO poisoning as there is no combustion occurring in the house and currently there is a 30% federal tax credit.

For hot water, a Navien, on demand boiler is installed.  In addition to hot water, it provides auxiliary heat to the geothermal unit.  It is needed in the event of subzero temperatures or a loss of power.  Navien instant hot water units have the industries highest efficiency rating - 98%.

New construction standards and codes create houses which can create highly polluted environments.  To combat this, various air exchange systems can be installed.  In this house, we chose an air exchanger which also filters the indoor air with a HEPA filter - a Venmar HEPA 3.0 was installed.

To maintain a comfortable level of humidity, a humidifier is installed on the unit as well as a dehumidifier.  Honeywell manufactures both units and we have setup the dehumidifier to maintain a certain relative humidity level in the basement - the source of most problems with humidity.

The controls installed are of the new Honeywell Prestige line with Redlink.  In short, this system allows you to monitor your HVAC system from anywhere in the world with an Android device, Apple device or web browser.  This setup even allows the homeowner to control the humidity level set in the house.

As always, our work comes with our warranty and guarantee of quality, comfort and satisfaction.

    Hi -
We are working towards purchasing a home in Granville, built between 1951 and 1954. It is approximately 4000 sf. There are 2 bedrooms over the garage and a partially finished basement. The center of the home is built on a rock ledge.
We are wondering if a geothermal system can be installed on this property. It is currently heated with oil - lots of oil so I am told. There is also a central air system that has not been used in four or five years.
Thank you for any information you can provide.

Yes, of course a geothermal system can be installed in this home. There is always a way to add geothermal to an existing home, Sometimes we have to get more creative with the installation, the existing central air system will certainly help with the overall install.

As the potential owner, i would recommend that you look into the quality of the insulation in the home. The better the Insulation, the lower your heating costs will be.

If you do purchase the home, we provide free estimates and heating cost analysis!

I love geothermal. It is the best way to heat and cool your house. Until I read about it, I did not know that it can cool your house too. Most polepe think it is only for heating. I love green energy. I love eco friendly HVAC. I love energy star heating and cooling and I love Delaware. I also love America I think I am having a love fest lol

Do you know any expert guide that shows how to install geothermal heat pumps in houses? A lot of the free ones I've come across so far aren't that good, or complete even. I need something with technical expertise and proven methods, so I'm sure of the costs and labor involved in advance.
